Obituary
On December 1, 2022, Ollie Mae Griffin, 90, of Stanfield, entered into eternal rest.
Ollie was born on February 13, 1932, to the late Elwood and Laura Voncannon in Cabarrus County. Her devoted husband of 69 years, Robert Kermit Griffin, as well as her sister Evelyn Hooks both predeceased her.
Ollie had a strong faith in Christ. She was a founding member of the Women’s Missionary Union and a devoted member of the Philadelphia Baptist Church in Stanfield. She worked with the church’s kids and youth for many years while singing in the choir.
In earlier years, Ollie enjoyed gardening and sharing fruits of the harvest with others. Ollie dearly loved her family. She was a wonderful mother, sister and grandma. Ollie will be forever loved and greatly missed.
Survivors include daughter, Saundra (Jerry) Smith of Stanfield; son, Michael (Tammy) Griffin of Stanfield; three brothers, E.J., Jerry, and Darrell Voncannon; three sisters, Carolyn Austin, Pat Reynolds, and Judy Foley; four grandchildren, Emily (Brandon) Douglas, Brooke (Jacob) Hartsell, Matthew (Paige) Smith, and Kayce Smith Vaughan (Chase Coleman); seven great-grandchildren, Ava, Breanna, Taryn, and Tate Douglas, Addilyn Hartsell, Emma Vaughan and Houston Coleman.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 pm – 2:45 pm, Sunday, December 4, 2022, at Philadelphia Baptist Church, Stanfield. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm, officiated by Rev. Dr. Carey Snellings. Ollie will be laid to rest in the church cemetery immediately following the service.
The family expresses their sincerest appreciation to Lisa, Crystal, Deanna and the staff of Hospice of Stanly for the care they provided to honor her wishes to remain at home.
