Charlotte served as the CFO of USS Polaris in Toledo before becoming the proprietor of Upah Tax & Bookkeeping Service in 1984. Charlotte’s marriage and her family were the two most significant aspects of her life. She had a great servant’s heart and was all about serving and ministering to others. Charlotte grew in her religion and shared her appreciation of the Catholic Mass while attending Tama’s St. Patrick Catholic Church. She was very active in the church, serving as the Chair of the Finance Council and the Date Night Marriage Ministry.

Charlotte actively engaged in the governor-appointed Iowa District Court Sixth Judicial District Nominating Commission as well as the Iowa Board of CPAs. Charlotte served on the boards of directors for Area Education Agency 6 and 267 from 1992 to 2015, as well as the Tama-Toledo Chamber of Commerce and the South Tama Dollars for Scholars program. Charlotte always stood behind her family because she was proud of them. She particularly cherished her time with her grandchildren. Her three children, Fr. Andy Upah of Dubuque, Sara (Luke) Cross of Marshalltown, and Kristy (Tyler) Staker of Cedar Rapids, are still living.

She is also survived by her mother, Ludmilla Perkins of Toledo. Along with her mother, three siblings, and her husband of 42 years, Stan Upah of Toledo, she is also survived by 10 grandkids. Father-in-law Joseph Stadler, father-in-law Don Upah, and stepfather John Perkins all went away before she did. At St. Patrick in Tama, everything is put up on December 20 at 3:15 p.m. (900 Park St.). Churches employ the rosary until 7 PM after visits. The funeral liturgy will be held at 10:30 am on December 21 after a luncheon in the church hall and attendance at church from 9:00 to 10:00 am.
