Maria Karvouni Death, Obituary – Maria Karvouni, the principal of Auburn High School, had been battling sickness for some time before we learned over the weekend that she had left for the weekend. This news startled and extremely grieved all of us. Our thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones and friends at this time. It is largely because to Maria’s work that Auburn High School has developed into what it is now, and she was a principal at the school who was incredibly well-liked and respected by the students and faculty alike. Maria has been an important member of the Boroondara neighborhood for more than three decades, during which time she has made significant contributions to both the State Education System and the community at large.

Maria was a remarkable person who was also a brilliant and committed leader who personified the DARE ideas that we hold dear. She will be missed by all who knew her. Because of the excellent way in which she conducted herself, she served as a source of motivation for everyone in our community. We strongly recommend that parents and other caregivers have conversations with the young people living in their homes about this news and any other topics related to loss that are relevant to their family. These conversations should include any and all topics that relate to the passing of a loved one.

We will be able to pull strength from one another in order to get through this challenging moment because we are a strong community. Please do not hesitate to phone the school for support if you have any worries or concerns concerning your child or children, and you can also refer to the Compass News Feed for updates. During this difficult time, the school will be there to offer support to both the children and the staff members. The lobby of the school now contains a memorial space that is dedicated to Maria.

Friends and family members are cordially invited to pay their respects there on Tuesday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. and write their condolences in a book that will be provided there. The memorial space is located in the lobby of the school. Any cards or notes that are left in the baskets that have been provided for that purpose and are intended for the family of Maria will be delivered to them.
We would like to express to Maria’s family and friends, on behalf of the whole school community, our deepest sympathies and thoughts during this trying time. Maria was a beloved member of our school community. We would be very grateful if you could share your own personal reflections and warm recollections of Maria in the comments area below.
