Jake Hickey Obituary, Death – Jake Hickey unexpectedly passed away in Salt Lake City, Utah motorcycle accident. He was born on November 2, 1936, in Dayton, Ohio, the son of William Loren and Marcella Catherine Hickey. Dan graduated from Bishop Kenny High School in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1954. His last academic stop was the University of Florida. He married Claire Marie Torrans on September 12, 1959, and the two were together until her death on June 26, 2013. He served in the US Navy before starting college.
After a brief stint as a Western Auto sales representative for Southeast Georgia and Northeast Florida, he owned and operated the neighborhood Western Auto Store for about 40 years. He had a brief retirement before going back to work as a spokesperson for Nalley components. He was known for his positive outlook, habit of always having a pencil in his ear, and habit of never meeting strangers. He actively supported the Brunswick Lions Club, American Legion Post #9, Knights of Columbus, Elk Lodge #691, and St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church throughout his life.
His remaining relatives include his sister Tricia Johnson (Ray) of West Jordan, Utah, his brother Al Torrans II (JoAnn) of Lake City, Florida, and his in-laws Tom and Howard Hickey (Janice) of Jacksonville, Florida. His brother-in-law Bill Reck from Val Rico, Florida was also left behind. Chris Hickey, Greg Hickey, Heather Hickey, Allyson Hickey, Chuck Stone, Becky Hickey, and CJ Strickland of Brunswick, Georgia are the parents of HTCS (SW)(Ret) Chris Hickey.
Dan was incredibly proud of his 18 grandchildren, including Shawn Hickey (Morgan), Matt Hickey, Haila Hickey Jones (Landen), Loren Hickey, Christo Hickey, Beatrice Hickey, Cole Mason, Ainsley Mason, Olin Mason, LCPI Macon Mason, Justin Stone, and Timothy Mason, as well as his eight great grandchildren, Tait, Lillie, Mowgli, Teagan, Simon, Grant, Delilah, and Clar. Dan’s parents, sister Donna Hickey Reck, brother-in-law Chauvine Hickey, grandson Loren Hickey, and his longtime partner Claire Marie Torrans Hickey all passed away before him.
