Libbia Schaefer Death, Obituary – Libbia “Libby” Rose (Bailey) Schaefer died suddenly on December 13, 2022, at the house she shared with her son Bill Schaefer and Jamie Erickson not far from Burns, Oregon. Dennis, her husband, was by her side. Libby was born at the Burns Maternity Home in Burns, Oregon, on February 17, 1942. In Diamond, Oregon, on the Bailey ranch, she spent her formative years. Libby’s parents moved the family to Middleton, Idaho after they retired, where she finished her secondary education.

When they were both students at Ambassador College in Pasadena, California, Libby and Dennis Schaefer had their first encounter. After getting married on August 10, 1963 in Tripp, South Dakota, they relocated to the Schaefer farm. Together with her husband, Libby raised seven children, and she dedicated the rest of her life to raising them. She cherished looking after her family’s large garden and farm animals. Between the kids’ antics, this kept her occupied.

Even though she didn’t have much free time, she truly liked learning about fitness and healthy nutrition. After living on the road for a while, Libby and Dennis made a permanent home not far from Fields, Oregon, and started their retirement. Many of their offspring had chosen to make this place their permanent home, so she was able to spend more time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Prior to her death, Libby was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Maxine (Kern) Bailey, her brothers, Tom, Walt, Fred, and Bob Bailey, and her sister, Colleen Hutcheon.

Libby was preceded in death by her young granddaughter as well. Her seven children are Rose Schaefer Dykstra (David Martinek), June (Fred) Maupin, Bill Schaefer (Jamie Erickson), Tom (Sabrina) Schaefer, Naomi (Pete) Casey, Dorothy Styles, and Abraham (Katrena) Schaefer. She is also survived by her husband Dennis Schaefer, 20 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her husband, Dennis Schaefer.
