John Giles Obituary, Death – John Giles, who had previously worked for the town of Elsmere as both the Chief of Police and the Town Manager, passed away not too long ago, the Town of Elsmere has learnt with profound sadness. 1978 marked the beginning of John’s career in the Elsmere Police Department, which he had joined the previous year. In 1998, he stepped down from his position as Chief of Police at the department and retired.
John was hired as the Town Manager of the Town of Elsmere in the year 2002, and he remained in that job until the end of his professional career in the year 2022. Over the course of four decades, Mr. Giles devoted himself to serving the Town of Elsmere in various capacities. During this difficult time, we want his family to know that they are in our thoughts and prayers, and we want them to know that we are thinking about them. John S. Giles, who was a Life Member and served as Past President of the Elsmere Fire Company, passed away recently.
It is with a heavy heart that the Officers and Members of the Elsmere Fire Company announce his passing. During the fifty years that President Giles was a member of the fire company, he served in a variety of capacities, including those of Assistant Chief, Captain, and Director, amongst other positions. President Giles is currently serving as the company’s president. In addition to his service with the fire company, John was promoted to the position of Chief of Police in the Elsmere Police Department after working his way up through the ranks of the department.
In addition to this, John gave his time with the Elsmere Volunteer Fire Company during this period. John resigned as Town Manager of Elsmere only a short time before he retired from his position. John was an outstanding illustration of what it means to work in the public sector, and his absence will be keenly felt in that capacity. There will be an announcement made providing the information regarding the services once it is ready.
