He was the last survivor of his immediate family. His biological father was a man named Everett, and his first wife was a woman named Theresa. There are a number of people who are able to carry on his legacy, including his mother Cheryll Swalwell-Hughes, his wife Karen, and his daughters Katy (who is married to Heath Henderson) and Abbey (who is married to Eric Henderson).
His grandchildren Beau, Thea, Jacob, and Anabel, and his siblings Ron (who is married to Ann), Randy (who is married to David Waggoner), Linda (who is married to Jose Garcia), and Kim. Also still living are his grandchildren: Beau, Thea, Jacob, and Anabel (Terri Davisson). In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a cause that he was passionate about for many years: the construction of the Athene Bridge, which will connect Browns Woods and Raccoon River Park.
