Denny McKeown Obituary, Death – Denny McKeown a highly regarded Midwest gardening expert has passed away. Denny McKeown is the go-to person for any lawn and garden issue for thousands of Midwest gardeners. Denny is a horticulture specialist who is well-known, well-liked, and has more than 50 years of experience in the nursery industry. Five-year-old McKeown fell in love with gardening when his family’s landscaper let him help as much as he could. I am really lucky to be able to say that I knew what I wanted to achieve with my life at the age of five, says McKeown.

Denny believes that rather than attending Ohio State University and the University of Cincinnati, his real education came from his work experience. His high school graduating class selected him as one of the pupils “most likely to fail” due to his subpar academic performance. His classmates made up for it by awarding him a prize for “most improved” at their 25th reunion. Denny arranged the first Jaycees Haunted House, a fundraising event that inspired thousands of others around the nation and raised millions of dollars for charitable causes, in addition to his other achievements in business and public life.

He previously held the position of National President of Garden Centers of America. The Denny McKeown Gardening Show, a Saturday morning radio program that aired on a number of regional radio stations in the Cincinnati area, was hosted by Denny McKeown from 1981 to 2012. The show was also broadcast during this time in radio markets across the Midwest. In addition to hosting the radio show, Denny also wrote weekly garden articles for regional news websites. For more than 24 years, he provided gardening advice on Channel 9 news every Saturday and Sunday.

Denny immediately earned the title of “Cincinnati’s Garden Guru” as a result of all of this radio and television exposure. Denny continues to write a weekly gardening article for the Cincinnati Enquirer and a weekly email newsletter for his Bloomin Garden Centre clients. The Complete Guide to Midwest Gardening, his debut book, was released by Taylor Publishing Company in 1985. Eight further gardening books were also written by Denny and later released by Cool Springs Press. “Ohio Getting Started Garden Guide,” his most recent publication, was released in 2015.

Denny started Bloomin Garden Centre and Landscape in the early 1990s with the goal of offering customers in the Tri-State area high-quality and time-tested plants, gardening supplies, and landscaping services. Denny gets help from Chris, who he sees as the foundation of the business. Instilling and fostering his love of gardening among his family and the Tri-State community has been Denny’s lifelong commitment. Denny and his wife Pat enjoy watching their seven grandchildren grow and develop thanks to their son Chris and their two daughters, Molly and Jennifer.

Denny has come to understand that his personal success is solely determined by the success of the clients’ yards, which we landscaped and maintained. With his distinct sense of humor, which he freely shares with everyone he meets, he gives his common sense, matter-of-fact approach to gardening, emphasizing low-maintenance, high-performance, and high-color plants.
