Shoe Box Ministry at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church may be located at 1985 Pleasant Ridge Rd., Westville, Florida 32464. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be directed to this ministry. You can find the church at this address. Margaret Slaughter was born on February 3, 1949 in Holmes County, Florida, to the late Alcus Earl and Myrtle Earnestine Harrison Slaughter. Her parents both passed away before she was born.

Her mother and father have both passed away since then. Because Margaret loved and cared for so many people, she was able to win the hearts of a great number of others. She took great pleasure in the responsibilities of being a wife to her husband and a mother to her children, as well as in the time she spent with her extended family and her close friends. Her favorite activities included reading, sketching using gel pens, and decorating Christmas shoe boxes. She also enjoyed doing all of these things.

She was preceded in death by her husband James J. Mixon, her sister Marie Harrell, and her brother Ralph Slaughter, in addition to her parents. Her parents were also her predecesors. Her spouse and both of her parents had died away before she did.
Her three daughters are as follows, and they are the only ones to outlive her: Grandchildren: Joshua Mixon Kersey of Westville and Faith Lynn Kersey of Bonifay, James Steven Miller of DeFuniak Springs, Seth Eugene Miller, and Brandon Jedidiah Miller of Westville; great-grandchildren: James Edward Thompson and Allie Pearl Kersey, both of Bonifay;
