Matthias Wirtz Death, Obituary – The news of North Haven firefighter Matthias Wirtz’s death in the line of duty broke to us this morning, December 26, 2022, with heavy hearts. We send our condolences to his family and friends. The multiple alarm fire that started at 27 Quinnipiac Avenue forced more than a dozen people to locate new residences. Firefighter Wirtz and his brother both arrived on the scene to put out the fire. Wirtz had some trouble fighting the fire and had to be evacuated to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he eventually passed unexpectedly. We are requesting the prayers of everyone in our community for Wirtz’s family and his larger firefighting family, who are grieving this tragic loss.
At a time of year when families typically get together to rejoice, our brave firemen are currently suffering the loss of one of their own. We sincerely request that any enquiries regarding this occurrence be sent to the Fire Headquarters in order to respect the family’s right to privacy. Last but not least, we would like to thank the brave firefighters from North Haven who risked their own safety to rescue the lives of others. Sincere condolences are sent to everyone. You constantly put the needs of others before your own, and for that, I am grateful. An awful catastrophe We are thinking of you all.
The North Haven Fire Department is in our thoughts and prayers during this trying time. Suffering the loss of a family member while working can’t be easy. Because Matt was a fantastic person, friend, and brother, many people are going to miss him. I want to express my gratitude for both his friendship and the work he offered to our community. Amen. May God’s mercy grant him and all the faithful deceased a peaceful rest in their afterlife.
