Barbara Newman Death, Obituary – Barbara Newman unexpectedly died away at Albany Medical Center on the day of Saturday, December 24, 2022. She was born in Amityville, Long Island, New York, on August 17, 1943, to Charles and Barbara Pechtel, who have now passed away. Greenwich High School awarded Barbara her diploma in the year 1961. She was a secretary at the WSWHE BOCES in Saratoga Springs for many years before she finally retired. Barbara was a horse enthusiast who worked as a groomer at the Saratoga Harness Track and also earned her certification as a horse trainer.

She has been a committed member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary #2586 in Saratoga Springs for more than 30 years, during which time she has held the positions of former auxiliary and state president, in addition to her present role as treasurer. The activity that she enjoyed doing the most in her spare time was going on vacation with her husband, Joseph Newman. They went on numerous adventures together, the most memorable of which were their travels to Germany, Switzerland, and the Caribbean. She found pleasure in unplanned excursions to the casino as well as crocheting.

The quality of being an incredible friend and role model to a large number of people will be Barbara’s primary legacy. She genuinely had the largest heart, and she assisted everybody who was in need of assistance. Barbara was a wonderful parent, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will miss her terribly. She was preceded in death by her son Jeffrey Dewey, as well as by her brothers Robert and Charles Pechtel and her sisters Betty Jean Hathaway and Geraldine Mann. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her son.

She is survived by her devoted husband of more than three decades, Joseph Newman, of Saratoga Springs, New York; her children, Cyndi (Steve) McKuhen of Crawfordville, Florida, and Bonnie Jo Dewey (Scott) of Victory Mills, New York; her sister, Joan (Dolly) Hotaling of Schenectady; her five grandchildren, Samantha and Steve McKuhen Jr. of Florida, Melynda Santabar of Greenfield Center, Brandon De On Friday, January 6, 2022, at 6:00 p.m., a memorial ceremony will be place at the Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, which is located at 80 Main Street in Greenwich, New York 12834. Prior to the ceremony at the funeral home, family and friends are welcome to call between the hours of 4 and 6 pm.
